Villa Eugénie
A tucked-away two-bedroom hideaway 30 seconds from Anse des Cayes sand
Why Go
Skip the resort scene. Villa Eugénie is a pocket-sized West Indies cottage on St. Barth's quieter northwest coast — the kind of place where you fall asleep to the surf, wake up to Nespresso on a sea-view terrace, and never touch a lobby key card.
The Experience
Set back a hundred metres from the crescent of Anse des Cayes beach, Villa Eugénie is a two-bedroom villa that trades resort polish for lived-in warmth. Traditional Antillean bones — pitched wood ceilings, shuttered windows, gingerbread trim — meet a crisp, modern interior in shades of driftwood and white linen. Two equivalent queen bedrooms flank a central living space that spills onto a dining terrace, a rear gazebo lounge, and a heated jacuzzi tucked into a garden dotted with mango and papaya trees. Ocean views follow you from the kitchen to the tub. Because it's a villa rather than a hotel, days here have a domestic rhythm: coffee on the terrace, a barefoot walk down to the surf beach, a long lunch on the gas BBQ, and sundown from the jacuzzi with the Atlantic in earshot.
What to Try
Take your morning coffee to the rear gazebo — it catches the trade winds and the best of the sea soundtrack. Fire up the gas BBQ for at least one dinner in (the Marché U in Saint-Jean is a five-minute drive for local fish and rosé). And don't skip the heated jacuzzi after a day of Anse des Cayes bodysurfing — the beach has genuine swell, unlike the calmer bays elsewhere on the island.
Insider Tip
Anse des Cayes is one of the few St. Barth beaches with proper waves, so pack reef shoes and ask the villa about board rentals through the local surf shop rather than driving to Lorient. Also worth knowing: the villa sleeps four comfortably but the single shared bathroom means it's really built for a couple or a family of four who don't mind close quarters — not two couples splitting the rent.
The Practical Stuff
Two bedrooms, 1.5 bathrooms, sleeps up to four. Weekly rentals only, roughly €1,900/week low season (Apr–Dec) and €2,750/week high season (Dec–Apr), plus 15% tax and 10% service. Parking for one car — a rental is essential on St. Barth. Pet-friendly and child-friendly. Nearest airport (Rémy de Haenen / SBH) is a five-minute drive; Gustavia is about ten. Wi-Fi, A/C, safes, Nespresso, dishwasher, and daily housekeeping included.
