Before every boutique from Palm Beach to Saint-Tropez was stocking breezy, hand-blocked Bali cottons, there was a small shop on Rue de la République run by a free-spirited Cannes transplant named Poupette. This is where the whole story started in 2000 — and it's still the most magical place to buy the dresses that have come to define the St Barths uniform.
The Experience
Tucked into Immeuble Chamade at 13 Rue de la République, the flagship feels less like a store and more like the closet of a well-traveled friend who happens to summer here. Rails are packed shoulder-to-shoulder with the label's signature tiered maxis, off-the-shoulder blouses, and ruffled minis in ditsy florals, painterly stripes, and sun-bleached brights. Everything is cut from lightweight cottons and silks handmade in Bali, so the fabric moves the second the trade winds hit it. The girls' collection hangs alongside the women's, which is why you'll spot mothers and daughters walking out in coordinating prints — a very St Barths tradition. Staff are French, unhurried, and genuinely happy to pull sizes while you sip water in the fitting room.

The tiered Thelma or Sasha maxi dress is the piece that built the brand — buy it here and you'll wear it to beach clubs from Shell Beach to Nikki. Time your visit for the shoulder hours — right at the 9:30 am opening or after 4 pm — to avoid the cruise-tender crowd that pours down Rue de la République midday. If you're around in low season (September–October), ask about sample-sale racks in the back; end-of-season pieces from the previous resort collection get marked down and rarely make it online. And because everything is hand-dyed in Bali, colors and prints vary slightly piece to piece — hold two of the 'same' dress up to the light before choosing.

Parking is scarce on Rue de la République; leave the mini-moke on Quai de la République by the harbor and walk two minutes up. Sizes run French (34–42) and skew petite through the shoulders — size up if you're between.
