Why Go
The name comes from the Carib word for the island, and that's the whole vibe here: locally owned, low-key, and dialed in on the twenty-plus sites tucked inside the Réserve Naturelle. Boats leave straight from Gustavia harbor, most spots are under ten minutes out, and the groups stay small enough that the guide actually knows what you saw on the last dive.
The Experience
You'll roll up to the Port de Gustavia dock, get fitted with well-kept Scubapro gear, and head out on a properly outfitted dive boat with a crew that leans more 'friendly regulars' than 'tourist operation.' Owner Turenne Laplace has been diving these waters for years and runs trips from both the Caribbean side out of Gustavia and the Atlantic side from Grand Cul-de-Sac depending on wind and swell. Expect three daily departures (9:00, 11:00, 14:30), calm surface conditions most of the year, and healthy coral inside a marine reserve that limits boat traffic and fishing. The center is affiliated with SSI, CMAS, and the French FFESSM, so certifications travel anywhere.
What to Try
Ask for Pain de Sucre if the conditions are right — four dive sites clustered around a pinnacle with reef sharks, lobsters tucked into ledges, and a decent shot at nurse sharks. Non Stop is the accessible wreck for newer divers (a 63m ship sunk in 1989, sitting shallow enough to spend real time on), while Kayali is the deeper trawler for anyone with an Advanced card. Beginners should request Gros Îlets — locals call it the Aquarium for a reason. If you're experienced and the Atlantic is behaving, push for Roche Rouge, where hammerheads and even tigers pass through.
Insider Tip
They close every September, so don't waste time trying to book that month. Also: the boat splits between Gustavia and Grand Cul-de-Sac based on conditions — tell them where you're staying and they'll usually work out the closest departure point rather than making you cross the island.
