The Experience
Neo Ride is Saint-Barthélemy's first multi-brand dealership dedicated exclusively to electric two- and three-wheelers, and their Lorient-area rental counter is where a lot of savvy visitors kick off their island week. The vibe is more concept boutique than rental desk: a lineup of Yadeas, Segways, Horwins, Pinks and the head-turning Ray 7.7 parked in a row, and a small team (Marie handles English, Sebastien French) walking you through the controls before you head out. Because the bikes are silent, you notice things you'd otherwise miss — goats on the stone walls above Colombier, the click of frigate birds over Saline, the surf pushing into Lorient Bay right beside the shop. Pick-ups run Monday–Saturday morning and afternoon during standard hours, but the team routinely opens by appointment from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., which is a lifesaver if your flight lands late at Rémy de Haenen just five minutes down the road.
What to Try
For first-timers or anyone with a car license valid over two years, the 50cc-equivalent Yadea G5 or Pink Style is the sweet spot — light, easy through Gustavia's tight one-ways, and plenty of range for a loop from Lorient to Gouverneur and back. If you have an A1/A2 moto license, upgrade to the Segway E300 or the flagship Ray 7.7, a torque-heavy electric that eats the climb up to Colombier and gives you real overtaking power on the road to Toiny. Ask about the multi-day discount: rent seven days and one day is offered in low season, and long-stay guests (3+ months) get a custom rate worth negotiating.

Charge etiquette is the local secret — plug in every night at your villa or hotel and you'll never think about range, but if you're doing back-to-back beach days, top up during your long lunch (a couple of hours on a standard socket claws back most of a day's use). Book the Ray 7.7 or Pink Fly at least a week ahead in high season; there are only a handful on the island and they're the first to go. And bring a light windbreaker even in July — the sunset ride back over the Lurin ridge is cooler than you'd expect at 40 km/h with no engine heat.
