A rental car is essentially mandatory; book it before you fly, especially December through April and around the Bucket Regatta and New Year's. Euros and cards work everywhere, but keep small cash for tips and beach-shack lunches. High season runs mid-December to mid-April; May–June and November are the sweet spot for value and quiet.
