MAPO St Barth

Manue and Polo's bar à manger where a spritz turns into supper

Why Go

Tucked into the arcades of La Villa Créole in Saint-Jean, MAPO is the island's newest 'bar à la créole' — the kind of place you drop into for a Spicy Paloma at sunset and find yourself, three courses later, still ordering. Manue and Polo run it themselves, and it shows in every dish and every pour.

The Experience

The space feels like a stylish friend's living room that happens to have a serious cocktail bar in the corner: warm woods, Mediterranean colors, plants softening the arcades, and a long counter where the mixologists work with the same care the kitchen brings to a tuna crudo. Days start slow — coffees and toasts spilling into a lunch of Greek salads and burrata — and evenings build gradually, with the bar filling first around 7pm and tables turning until close. It's polished enough for a proper St Barth dinner but casual enough that you can walk in from the beach in linen and flip-flops without a second glance.

What to Try

For sharing, the prime rib for two (€89) is the signature — Black Angus, cooked pink, built for a bottle of red. Solo, go for the tuna with sakura flower, the crispy prawns, or the lamb confit with harissa. At lunch, the Black Angus burger and the Burrata-tomato salad are the locals' picks. Behind the bar, don't miss the Sésame Daiquiri, the Green Mezcalita, or the house Mangorita — all €15–16 and made with real intention.

Insider Tip

MAPO is one of the few Saint-Jean spots that keeps the bar open continuously from 10am to midnight (Mon–Sat), so it's your rescue plan between lunch and dinner service everywhere else on the island — perfect for a 4pm rosé and a plate of toasts after the beach. Sundays it opens at 5pm only, which locals treat as the unofficial start of the evening. Reserve for dinner in high season (Dec–Feb, Easter); walk-ins are realistic at the bar counter.
