Tucked behind another storefront on Rue du Général de Gaulle, M'BOLO is barely a room — but push through and you enter Sandrine and Christian's 25-year-old rhum arrangé workshop, where the greeting is Gabonese ('m'bolo' means hello) and every bottle on the shelf was steeped with fruit, spices and herbs pulled from Christian's own island garden.
The Experience
You'll almost walk past it — that's part of the fun. Once inside, the space is more atelier than boutique: shelves crowded with hand-labeled bottles glowing amber, gold, pink and green, and Sandy (or Christian) behind the counter cheerfully pouring tasters into little plastic cups. There are no extracts, no shortcuts, no importing tricks — just fresh Caribbean fruit and botanicals macerated slowly in rum. Regulars call it the most authentic ten minutes of shopping on the island: no yacht crowd posturing, no French pricing theatrics, just two people who clearly love what they do walking you through a lineup that has quietly become a St Barth institution.
What to Try
Ask to taste across the range — there are at least 13 flavours and they rotate with what's ripe. The passion fruit and the vanilla are the crowd-pleasers and travel home beautifully, but the ginger and the coconut are the ones locals stock in their beach coolers. If you can only take one bottle, let Sandy pick based on how you drink (neat on a terrace vs. splashed over ice with lime). The banana-flambé style and the coffee-infused expressions are the sleeper hits most tourists miss.
Insider Tip
Bring cash and a small tote — the shop is tiny, card handling is casual, and bottles wrap better in your own bag than in the paper they'll offer. Come mid-afternoon after the 15:00 reopening (before the sunset shoppers hit Gustavia); you'll usually have Sandy to yourself and get the long version of the story behind each infusion. And buy two of anything you love — you will regret leaving with just one once you're back home.

Look for the small M'BOLO sign — the entrance is set back through another shop, so don't give up if it looks closed from the street. Walkable from the Gustavia harbor in about five minutes. No reservation needed; tastings are free and generous but a purchase is the polite thank-you.
