Why Go
A quiet, wood-paneled sanctuary on rue du Général de Gaulle where the three Rothschild branches — Lafite, Mouton, and Edmond — share one cellar, one bar, and one very civilized evening ritual.
The Experience
Push open the door and Gustavia's flip-flop bustle drops away. The room is small, deliberately hushed, and styled like a Parisian tasting salon transposed to the tropics — dark woods, soft lighting, backlit shelves of iconic labels, and a marble bar built for slow conversation. You come here to drink seriously without any of the yacht-crowd theatrics you get elsewhere on the island: no DJ, no bottle sparklers, just a sommelier walking you through flights of Champagne Barons de Rothschild alongside verticals from Château Lafite, Mouton, and the Edmond de Rothschild estates. It doubles as a boutique, so anything you fall for at the bar can be shipped or hand-carried back to the villa. Come at sunset for a coupe before dinner, or settle in later when it becomes one of Gustavia's most grown-up night-caps.
What to Try
Start with a glass of the Champagne Barons de Rothschild Blanc de Blancs — bright, chalky, unmistakably Côte des Blancs — then step up to a comparative flight of Lafite and Mouton to feel the Left Bank contrast in one sitting. If you have the afternoon free, book the Champagne & Wine masterclass; it's the best value on a very serious list and the sommelier will open bottles you'd never try by the glass elsewhere on the island.
Insider Tip
The lounge is technically evening-only (Mon–Sat, 6 PM–11:30 PM), but the tasting masterclasses run earlier in the afternoon by reservation — a much better way to actually learn the wines than trying to compete with the pre-dinner crowd. Book 24–48 hours ahead through the shop, tell them your budget, and they'll tailor the flight rather than default to the printed menu.
The Practical Stuff
19 rue du Général de Gaulle, right in central Gustavia — walkable from the harbor and the main shopping loop. Open Monday to Saturday, 6:00 PM to 11:30 PM; closed Sunday. Reservations strongly recommended in high season (Dec–Apr) and essential for masterclasses. Smart-casual dress; the room is intimate (a dozen seats at most), so large groups should call ahead. Wines and champagne are also sold to take away.
