The Experience
Step off the sun-baked cobbles of Gustavia into a cool, low-lit shop where bottles are shelved with the reverence usually reserved for a Left Bank cave. Founder Daniel Passeri — a Caribbean chef before he became an importer — built Le Goût du Vin as a working merchant rather than a boutique, which is exactly what makes it fun to browse. You'll find grower Champagnes next to old-vine Priorat, natural Loire pét-nats beside allocation-only Napa cabs, and Provençal rosés stacked by the case for the villa crowd. Staff switch fluidly between French and English, will happily talk terroir for twenty minutes, and can arrange delivery to your rental, your hotel, or the dock at Port de Gustavia. Because the company also wholesales across St Barth, St Martin, Anguilla and Burgundy, prices are noticeably kinder than the markup you'll see on restaurant lists a block away.
What to Try
Ask for a Provençal rosé you haven't heard of — Passeri's team imports small-grower bottles that never make it to the U.S. Grab a magnum of grower Champagne for a beach picnic at Colombier, a bottle of aged white Burgundy to bring to a BYO-friendly bistro, or a rum from the back shelf if you want a distinctly Caribbean souvenir. If you're provisioning a boat, ask about mixed cases at wholesale — they'll build one to your menu.
Insider Tip
Time your visit for late morning before the lunch break: the shop typically closes midday and reopens late afternoon, and the staff have more bandwidth to actually pull bottles from the back cave before the pre-dinner rush of yacht stewards arrives around 5 pm. Bring your villa or boat name — many rentals have house accounts and you can charge directly.
The Practical Stuff
Located on Rue du Roi Oscar II in central Gustavia, a two-minute walk from the harbor. Generally open Monday–Saturday with a French-style midday closure (roughly 10:00–12:30 and 16:00–19:30); closed Sunday. Hours shift in low season and around holidays, so call ahead if you're making a special trip. Cash, cards and account billing accepted; delivery available across the island including to yachts at the port.
