Tucked along Gustavia's harbor edge, La Petite Plage feels less like a restaurant and more like a beach hut that decided to grow up — bohemian, breezy, and quietly ambitious. It's the address in St Barths where superyacht crews, honeymooners, and long-time locals all end up at the same table, watching the sun slide behind the masts.
The Experience
You arrive along Rue du Bord de Mer and step into a canvas-and-wicker world washed in beige, pink, and sunset orange. Sand underfoot, mast-lights above, and a soundtrack that drifts from acoustic guitar at aperitivo hour into a full-blown DJ set as the evening deepens. The service is polished but never stiff — waiters remember your rosé the second night — and the whole room orients toward the harbor, so every table gets a slow-moving parade of yachts on the water. It's chic without being precious: dress up, but leave the tie in the villa.
What to Try
The menu is signed by Michelin-starred chef Eric Frechon, and it shows. Start with the ceviche of the day — always cut from whatever the fishermen brought in that morning — then move to the whole grilled fish for the table. The sleeper hit is the coquillettes with ham, comté, and black truffles: a rich little bowl of pasta that people fly across the Atlantic for. Save room for the baba au rhum, wheeled over with a tray of Caribbean rums so you can choose your own soak.
Insider Tip
Book two seatings if you can: a 7 pm arrival for cocktails at sunset with the harbor still golden, then linger past 10 pm when the tables clear a little and the DJ takes over — the same room becomes a completely different party. Ask specifically for a table on the sand side (not the raised deck) and request the coquillettes even if you don't see them on that night's card; they'll almost always make it.
