Tucked into the L'Aroma building on rue du Roi Oscar II, La Case St-Barth is less a store than a temple to French West Indian rhum agricole — 350 bottles from Martinique, Guadeloupe and Marie Galante lined up in a scented, wood-lined 'rum room' that stops connoisseurs mid-stroll.
The Experience
You duck in off the harbor lanes and the noise of Gustavia falls away. The space smells of sugarcane, cocoa and Créole spice; shelves are stacked with vanilla pods, planter's syrups, small-batch chocolate and colorful island preserves, but the pull is the back room where the rhums are arranged by island and estate. Victoria and her team greet regulars by name and treat first-timers like curious friends — pouring blanc agricole to compare against a decade-aged vieux, explaining the AOC Martinique versus a habitation-style Marie Galante, and steering you toward bottles you'd never find on a duty-free shelf. Ask, and a casual pour turns into an impromptu tasting flight; book ahead, and it becomes a full masterclass. It's the kind of stop that starts as a five-minute errand and becomes the story you tell back on the boat.
What to Try
Ask for a side-by-side of a blanc 55° from Neisson (Martinique) against a Bielle blanc from Marie Galante to feel the terroir difference, then move to an aged Clément or HSE Single Cask. Don't leave without a jar of Créole spice mix, some island vanilla, and a bar of Grenadian or Martinican single-origin chocolate for the villa — they make a much better souvenir than another tote bag.

The shop shuts for the classic Antillean midday break (1pm–4pm), so plan tastings for late morning or early evening.
