L'atelier By Laetitia

A boutique Pilates studio tucked between the airport and Saline — the island's quiet counterweight to sunset rosé.

Why Go

Everyone comes to St. Barth to unwind, but the regulars — the yacht crews, second-home owners, the villa set that spends February here every year — have a not-so-secret ritual: they roll out a mat at L'atelier By Laetitia. Twenty years in, this small studio on Route de Saline has become the island's unofficial reset button, the place islanders slip into between beach mornings and dinner at Tamarin.

The Experience

Set inside the Espace Les Lataniers business complex just off Route de Saline, the atelier is deliberately understated — no sea view, no infinity pool, just a bright, air-conditioned room lined with reformers, cadillacs and mats. Laetitia has been teaching Pilates on both St. Barth and St. Martin for two decades, and she runs the studio with instructor Luciano; between them they cover mat classes, machine Pilates, stretching, breathing and guided relaxation. Sessions are capped small — often four to six people, sometimes fully private — so the correction is hands-on and the atmosphere feels more like a friend's home practice than a fitness chain. Expect a mixed crowd: villa guests fitting a class in before a Colombier beach hike, French residents keeping a year-round routine, and the occasional yacht guest sent over by their chef to work off last night's Bonito tasting menu.

What to Try

Book a private reformer session with Laetitia herself — it's the fastest way to understand why regulars re-book their whole winter here. If you're travelling with a partner or a friend, ask about a duo class on the machines; it's cheaper than two privates and the pace suits mixed levels. For a lighter option, the mat classes with breathing and relaxation are a lovely antidote to jet lag on your first or second morning on-island.

Insider Tip

Message the studio a week or two before you land — walk-ins during high season (Christmas through mid-February, and around the Bucket Regatta) are almost impossible, but Laetitia and Luciano are famously accommodating if you plan ahead. Bring grippy socks; the tile floor in the reception area is cool, and reformers are shared. Parking at Espace Les Lataniers is tight around 9 a.m. drop-off — arrive ten minutes early or scooter over.

The Practical Stuff

Address: 64 Espace Les Lataniers, Route de Saline, 97133 Saint-Barthélemy — a two-minute drive from Saint-Jean and the airport, five minutes from Saline Beach. Reach out via the studio's Facebook page (Laetitia SBH Pilates) to book classes, privates or duo sessions; class schedules shift seasonally so confirm in advance. Cash and card generally accepted. No changing rooms to speak of — come dressed to move.

Pair It With

  • Saline Beach — The island's most unspoiled stretch of sand is a five-minute drive down the same road — pair a morning reformer class with a late-morning swim and a lunch reservation at nearby Le Tamarin.
  • 6e Sens Massage Wellness Beauty Saint Barth Guide — A few doors away in the same Lataniers cluster — the natural follow-up to a deep-tissue Pilates session is a stretch-focused massage before dinner.
  • Absolute Hot Yoga (Gustavia) — Rotate a Pilates morning at Laetitia's with a hot yoga class in Gustavia later in the week for a well-rounded on-island wellness routine.
  • A Fleur de Peau (Saint-Jean) — After class, drive two minutes to Saint-Jean for a smoothie and a rummage through this well-edited boutique — a classic islander loop.
