Kiwi Saint Tropez: Riviera Swimwear on Saint Jean

The legendary Saint-Tropez beachwear label, transplanted into St Barths' most stylish shopping village.

Why Go

Born on the sun-soaked sands of Pampelonne in 1985, Kiwi has spent four decades defining what jet-setters wear between the yacht deck and the sand — and its Villa Créole outpost brings that same sun-drenched, French Riviera confidence to Saint Jean.

The Experience

Tucked into the airy, tropical arcades of Villa Créole, the Kiwi boutique feels less like a shop and more like a beach-house closet you were lucky enough to be invited into. The women's store is done up in bleached wood, rattan and natural linens — a cool, breezy backdrop for rails of bikinis, pareos, tunics and flowing kaftans in the season's colors. Just next door, the men's boutique carries the same DNA in a slightly more vintage register: swim shorts, printed shirts, straw hats and easy linen pieces made for sundowners at Nikki Beach. Staff switch fluidly between French and English, and unlike some of the higher-pressure luxury boutiques on the island, browsing here feels genuinely welcoming — you can try on half the store without anyone raising an eyebrow.

What to Try

The signature triangle bikinis in Kiwi's exclusive prints are the anchor of the collection and change several times a season, so what you find in July won't be there in December. Beyond swim, look for the pareos and long silk-blend tunics (perfect over a suit for lunch at a beach club), a straw capeline hat, and the espadrilles — all classic Kiwi pieces that hold up long after the tan fades. For men, the mid-length swim shorts in tropical prints are the buy.

Insider Tip

Villa Créole gets sleepy in the midday heat and busy again around 4pm when beachgoers drift back into Saint Jean — go mid-morning if you want unhurried attention, or late afternoon if you want to combine trying-on with an apéro at one of the courtyard cafés. If your size is out, ask: the team can often pull from the men's boutique next door or the Gustavia stock, and prints from Saint-Tropez sometimes arrive on a different rotation than what's on the floor.

The Practical Stuff

Location: Villa Créole shopping center, Saint Jean (about a 5-minute drive from Gustavia, directly opposite Eden Rock). Two adjacent boutiques — women's and men's. Cards accepted; prices are in euros and are similar to (or slightly below) the Saint-Tropez flagship. Small changing rooms, so bring a friend to hand sizes over the door. Parking in the Villa Créole lot is free but limited at peak hours.

Pair It With

  • Eden Rock Beach / Saint Jean Bay — Villa Créole sits directly across the road from Saint Jean beach — the natural place to debut a new Kiwi bikini with a swim and a lunch at Sand Bar.
  • Abyss Restaurant Guide — An easy walk from the boutique for a long, unhurried lunch after shopping, keeping you in the Saint Jean orbit.
  • 6e SENS Massage Wellness Beauty Saint Barth Guide — Round out a self-indulgent afternoon in Saint Jean with a massage or beauty treatment before heading back to the villa.
  • Absolute Hot Yoga (Gustavia) — Pair a morning yoga class in Gustavia with an afternoon browse at Villa Créole for a classic 'good for the body, good for the wardrobe' St Barths day.
