Insider Tip
Flamands faces due west, so the sunset show from the property side of the island is the best on St Barth — better even than Shell Beach. Ask reception to reserve a table at one of the beachfront restaurants below by 5:30 pm, order rosé, and let the golden hour do the work. If there's a north swell in winter (Dec–Feb), Flamands turns into the island's surf beach — pack a rash guard or borrow a board from the guys near the public access path.
The Practical Stuff
Location: Anse des Flamands, roughly 10 minutes by car from Gustavia and 5 minutes from St-Jean and the airport (Rémy de Haenen). A rental car is essentially mandatory — reserve it well before high season. The nearest ATMs, pharmacies, and full-size supermarket (Marché U) are in St-Jean. Bring reef-safe sunscreen (sold locally but pricey), and note that most restaurants and shops close for a long lunch break and take mid-September to late-October off entirely. Payment is in euros; USD widely accepted at a poor rate.
