Enzuma Villa: A Cliffside Hideaway Above Toiny

A three-bedroom modern retreat perched over St. Barth's wildest coastline

Why Go

Tucked into the hillside high above Toiny, Enzuma is the kind of villa you close the gate behind and forget the calendar exists — just the crash of the Atlantic, an infinity pool that vanishes into the horizon, and almost no neighbors in sight.

The Experience

Enzuma sits on one of the most secluded stretches of St. Barth, the rugged windward flank of Toiny, where the island trades manicured resorts for wave-battered cliffs and green hills. The villa itself is fresh and quietly contemporary: an open-plan great room under a soaring vaulted ceiling, walls animated by works from local artist Kate Kova, and floor-to-ceiling openings that fold back onto a terrace built for slow mornings. Oversized loungers, hammocks under umbrellas, and an adjustable-slat pergola let you tune the light hour by hour, while the infinity pool frames a horizon of nothing but Caribbean blue. Three air-conditioned bedrooms — each with its own sea view — comfortably sleep six, making it a natural fit for a small family, two couples, or a friends' escape that leans more 'private compound' than 'resort'. Concierge service is included, so the fridge is stocked, chefs and spa therapists appear on request, and airport transfers, boat charters, or a table at Le Toiny are a single message away.

What to Try

Start the day with coffee on the pergola terrace while the sun climbs over the Atlantic, then wander down the hill to the wild sweep of Anse de Toiny — dramatic to walk, too rough to swim, and a favorite of local surfers when the winter swell hits. Mid-morning, pick your way over the rocks to the Grand Fond natural pools, tide-carved basins where you can float in glassy water while surf explodes just meters away. Book an in-villa massage on the pool deck, order a private chef to cook a Creole-inflected dinner as the sun sets behind the ridge, and end the night stargazing from the hammocks — Toiny has almost no light pollution.

Insider Tip

Reserve lunch at Le Toiny's Beach Club, five minutes down the hill: nonguests can book, the ceviche and grilled catch are exceptional, and after lunch you get run of the loungers on the black-sand cove — the closest thing to a private beach club Enzuma has as a neighbor. Aim for a Sunday, when the vibe tips from serene to sparkling.

The Practical Stuff

Address: Toiny, 97133, Saint-Barthélemy. Located on the wild east coast, about a 25–30 minute drive from Gustavia and roughly 20 minutes from Rémy de Haenen Airport (SBH). A rental car is essentially required — the road down to Toiny is steep and taxis are limited. The villa sleeps up to 6 across three bedrooms, all air-conditioned; complimentary concierge is included with the rental and can arrange chefs, provisioning, spa, and transfers. High season (mid-December through mid-April) books out months ahead; shoulder season (May, June, November) offers the same weather with meaningfully lower rates.

Pair It With

  • Le Toiny Beach Club — The nearest — and arguably best — long-lunch spot, five minutes down the hill, with loungers on a quiet cove after you eat.
  • Grand Fond Natural Pools — Walkable from the villa: tide-carved rock pools where you can swim safely while the Atlantic thunders around you.
  • 6e Sens Massage — A trusted local wellness team that will come to Enzuma's pool deck for in-villa treatments after a day of surf and sun.
  • Absolute Hot Yoga, Gustavia — Worth the drive across the island for a grounding morning class before an afternoon back at the villa.
  • Abyss Restaurant Guide — A close-by dinner option when you feel like leaving the villa without committing to the Gustavia scene.
